My Heroes

Dad: Few knew about the castle hidden inside the island.

Me: Who lives in that castle?

Dad: Your great grandparents used to live there.

Me: REALLY?! Wow! Were they the king and queen?

Dad (chuckled) : No! They were just normal civilians like us.

Me: Oh!?

Dad (eyes teary): The island was plagued with malaria in the 1950s. Your great grandparents depleted their savings to treat the people living there, till they didn’t have enough to treat themselves. Because of that, they passed away.

Me (feeling sad): They are true heroes!

Dad: Indeed!

Me: Are they buried there?

Dad: Yes. We are going there to pay our respect.

Me: Why aren’t they buried nearer to town? Then we could pay our respect more often.

Dad: It was their last wish. They grew up together, met each other and married on the island. Therefore, they wanted to be buried there. It was their home, and will forever be their home.
