This Friday, 4th of Sept, is Teachers’ Day. We have prepared our gifts for our beloved and well-respected teachers. (This include our piano and ballet teachers too!)
Teachers are role models for our children in school. They motivated and inspired the young, and take care of their well-being too. Despite having lots of homework, my kids adore their teachers.
When I was young, I was really fearful of my teachers. They were strict and fierce, and often pull a stern face. When they shouted at a student, you could hear from across the courtyard. 😱
If anyone slept in class or wasn’t paying attention, you’d see a blackboard duster flying in her direction in the very next minute. Not sure where the teachers acquired their skill from, but they aimed very well and never miss their target! 😓
If we forgot to bring our books, we had to stand outside the classroom. Repeated offenders would get a beating on their palm (teachers loved to use their hard-meter-long ruler to beat our palms).
If anyone rocked her chair, she’d stand for the entire lesson.
The teachers then had instilled so much fear in us. (We all had our fair share of punishments 😁) Yet, they never fail to reward and praise students who were obedient, and did well in their studies.
When I recounted those old school memories to my children, they heaved a sigh of relief that their teachers aren’t like that. Their teachers are beautiful (on the inside and out), patient and merciful (merciful…indeed, my teachers were merciless…haha!!! “Second chance” never exist in my teachers’ dictionary).
Are your teachers as fearsome as mine?
Happy Teachers’ Day to all the teachers and parents too (well, parents are teachers at home! 😉 )
